If you plan to attend one of our popular 4th Saturday presentations, please arrive by  8:15 PM  so you can comfortably settle in before the program begins.

Admission is free, and no reservations are required. 

Have a telescope? Bring it along and enjoy observing with fellow astronomy enthusiasts. Our members are always happy to share their knowledge and help you get the most from your equipment.

What to Expect During Your Visit

Saturday Evening Public Programs

Beginning at  8:30 PM , our friendly  Qualified Observers (QOs)  will welcome you to the observatory and share a brief history of NJAA and its mission. You'll then enjoy a guided tour of our facilities.

Weather permitting, several telescopes will be available for observing the night sky, including our renowned  26-inch telescope—the largest public telescope in New Jersey.  You'll have the opportunity to view fascinating celestial objects such as the Moon, planets, star clusters, nebulae, and distant galaxies.

Have questions about astronomy, telescopes, or getting started in the hobby? Our Qualified Observers are always available to provide guidance and answer your questions.

On the  4th Saturday of each month from March through October , we also feature a special guest speaker presentation beginning at  8:30 PM , presented live and streamed online. Presentations typically last about one hour and cover a wide range of exciting astronomy topics.

Sunday Solar Observing

Join us on Sundays beginning at  2:00 PM  for a guided tour of the observatory followed by solar observing through our specially filtered telescopes (weather permitting).

Safely observe the Sun's ever-changing features, including sunspots, prominences,

and other fascinating solar activity.

Families and Children Welcome

Children are encouraged to visit and explore the wonders of astronomy with us. We strive to provide an engaging and educational experience for visitors of all ages.

For the safety and enjoyment of everyone, children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times during their visit.
