The silver dome atop the NJAA facility makes the unmistakable point that you have arrived at the observatory at Voorhees State Park. But where did it come from? It was not a construct of the founders, but neither was it a relic in dire need of restoration. The dome came from Princeton University.

19 feet in diameter and weighing in at 7 tons, the cherry atop the new building cost the NJAA $100. Nice deal! Not something one would want to be stuck behind in traffic, transporting the dome from Princeton began in the early morning.

Through the streets of High Bridge and tunnels that could not have been shaped more accomodatingly, the dome came slowly up the park road and was set down on the observatory site, ready to be hoisted into position.

The NJAA operates on leased premises administered by The State of New Jersey, Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Parks and Forestry
